Instructions for Use

Please read all below instructions thoroughly prior to using the DiaShield - Slim case.

Warnings and Disclaimers

  • IPX7 Rating Explanation: When Vaseline is applied correctly prior to use per the IFU, the case is waterproof for 1 meter in depth for up to 30 minutes. If Vaseline is not applied prior to use, the case cannot be relied upon to provide full waterproofing. Do not fully submerge your case or expose to water without applying Vaseline as instructed.
  • Test Before Using: It is always recommended to test your case prior to its first use and regularly during the life of the case. Please see instructions below on how to test your case.
  • Screen Care: Do not apply pressure directly to the screen without the pump secured within the case. It is always recommend to inspect the screen prior to use to ensure there is no separation of the screen from the case around the outside border or on the inside of the case. Do not store the case with anything resting on top of the screen.
  • Cleaning of Seal Areas: It is important to keep the rubber gasket areas clean. If dust or debris are introduced to the case when it is opened, this may compromise the case’s ability to effectively prevent ingress of water. Always clean the rubber areas prior to use, and prior to the application of Vaseline.
  • Avoid Extreme Conditions: Extra caution should be taken when using the product in extreme conditions, including high or low temperature environments (snow, saunas, etc), high-pressure water streams, or submersion deeper or longer than the IPX7 rating guarantees. Do not use in Scuba Diving, Deep-Water activities, or activities that apply sudden significant force to the case or screen such as surfing, wakeboarding, cliff-jumping, etc. Using the product in these environments could jeopardize sealing mechanisms and no guarantee of waterproofing can be made.
  • Inspect Regularly: Prior to use in underwater or very wet activities, we recommend inspecting the case for cracks, scratches, or other damages that may compromise its water resistance. If cracks, scratches, or other damages are seen, sealing mechanisms could be damaged and no guarantee of waterproofing can be made.
  • Use Least Amount Necessary: Your DiaShield case is designed to provide protection against a variety of environmental hazards (full water submersion) that could damage your insulin pump. Expose your case and insulin pump to the potentially damaging environment for the least amount of time as possible. The longer the case and pump are exposed to a particular environmental stressor (water submersion), the higher the probability of that stressor damaging your pump.
  • Warranty Information: If the IFU is followed and there is no physical damage to the product or excessive wear and tear, and the case still fails to prevent the ingress of water, we will replace your case for free within one year of purchase of the product.
  • Emergency Use: If your pump is not responding for any reason while it’s in the case, in a dry area immediately open the case and interact with your insulin pump as you normally would.
  • Contact Info: For any product issues, questions, or concerns, please contact info@diassentials.com and we will respond as soon as we can.

Testing Your Case:

  1. Before initial use and prior to significant water exposure it is always recommended to test your case by completing the below steps.
  2. Place top and bottom units on a secure surface. Lay all latches flat on the surface.
  3. Inspect all sides of the top and bottom unit for cracks, scratches, foreign particles (dust, lint) or other damages that may compromise the cases water resistance. If foreign articles are present or excessive wear and tear is found, full waterproofing cannot be maintained.
  4. Clean all gaskets and seals on the top and bottom unit prior to use. Run a lint free or microfiber towel with a small amount of 70% isopropyl alcohol inside of and around all gaskets.
  5. Place a pea sized amount of Vaseline along the insulin tubing track on the bottom unit, with particular placement of the Vaseline at the neck of the tubing collar where the tubing and luer lock join.
  6. Place a used insulin pump tubing (reservoir + tubing) inside insulin tubing track within bottom unit. Rest reservoir inside insulin pump compartment. Use insulin pump tubing that is not attached to an actual insulin pump. Only use the insulin tubing + reservoir for testing purposes.
  7. Rotate luer lock as needed to allow tubing to sit entirely within tubing track. Note: It is critical that the insulin cartridge tubing sits entirely within tubing track. Full waterproofing cannot be maintained if tubing protrudes outside of the tubing track.
  8. Place top unit on top of bottom unit. Align gaskets so that both top and bottom units sit flush on top of one another. Use your fingers to press case together by applying slight pressure around the outside of the case (do not apply pressure to the screen). Secure together by closing all latches to the top unit. An audible “snap” should be heard for all clips to ensure closure.
  9. Submerge the case in a body of water (bathtub, large bucket) up to 3 feet (1 meter) for 30 minutes. Take the case out of the water and inspect the case for any ingress of water. If ingress is found, the case should not be used.

For full waterproofing capabilities, place a pea sized amount of Vaseline along the insulin tubing track on the bottom unit, with particular placement of the Vaseline at the neck of the tubing collar where the tubing and luer lock join. It is ALWAYS recommended to apply Vaseline in situations where the case will be fully submerged or excessive water exposure is anticipated. If Vaseline is not applied prior to use, the case cannot be relied upon to provide full waterproofing.  Do not fully submerge your case or expose to water without applying Vaseline as instructed.
  6. Place insulin cartridge tubing inside insulin tubing track within bottom unit.

  11. To remove the insulin pump from the case, place the case on a secure surface.
  12. Apply outward force to the raised edge on the latches to detach the top unit from the bottom unit.
  13. Apply opposing force to the detachment ridges at either end of the case to separate top and bottom units.
  14. Remove top unit from bottom unit and retrieve insulin pump.
  15. Clean off any Vaseline or moisture on insulin pump tubing and within the case.
  16. Storage: Store your case away from other objects at room temperature. Do not let other objects rest on top of or apply pressure to the screen.
